Meldungen über einen bevorstehenden Vergleich zwischen
Microsoft & dem Department of Justice sind offenbar auf eine
Schaumgeburt im Dunstkreis der Redmonder Spin Doctors
zurückzuführen.

12:44 PM PT, Mar 22, 1999 The U.S. Department of Justice
has not received a settlement proposal from Microsoft in the
government's antitrust case against the software giant.
Reports earlier Monday credited unnamed Microsoft sources
with saying that Microsoft and the government would soon
begin settlement discussions, but the head of the
government's Antitrust Division issued a statement that
Microsoft had made no offers.
"We have not received any settlement proposal from
Microsoft," said Assistant Attorney General Joel Klein in a
statement.
A Department of Justice spokeswoman declined to comment
on whether the government and the company were engaged
in settlement discussions.
Klein noted in his statement that the government is open to
any settlement that protects consumers and prevents similar
antitrust violations. His only other comment was possibly a
jab at the unnamed Microsoft sources.
